Glass-Workshop

at CIAV- Meisenthal, France

invitation from the University of Fine Arts Saar, Germany

2014

Since 1993 the HBK Saar has been hosting glass working seminars and international summer camps at the tradition-steeped d‘Art Verrier (CIAV) in Meisenthal, a small community in the middle of the Parc Régional des Vosges du Nord in Lorraine, France. With its two professional glass blowers and a team of experienced instructors, the CIAV workshop is well equipped to gain deep insight into the old and virtuosic tradition of glassblowing.

The conceptual idea for this series of glass objects highlights the base, the invisible area as the most fascinating part of a very simple form. By deforming the base, the interior and exterior become nullified, reaching the limits of the material’s plasticity. The original rectilinear outer shape remains while the base is deformed ever more and the stand space subsequently voided. The line between exterior and interior space is blurred and become indistinguishable from one another. The true form progressively reveals itself, by bilateral use in its interior. The order of glass objects building up on each and showing their development in the aesthetic perception of interior and exterior.
