hybrid eating culture

design between values, rituals and cultures

2016/2017

Nous is a porcelain table object which breaks with our familiar European eating tradition. Because it is affected by different cultural eating habits and is combining different rituals, Nous creates a new eating culture. Through sharing food from one common dish a new appreciation of food and a balanced community is introduced. Nous is a central and democratic object. Nous’s non-removable marble base is placed in the middle of the dining table. By a tilting or rotary motion you can pull Nous up to you, as well as pass it on and offer the food to someone else at the table. Through the object, the food is centralised and transformed into a common shared good, which opens our mind to interact and appreciate.
