hybrid eating culture

design between values, rituals a nd cultures

2016/2017

Moi dissolves our distance to food and the distance to our own body by eating out of and with our hands. Moi is a hybrid of cultural habits and eating tools combining a dish, bowl and cutlery. This stainless-steel object serves as a protection from and as a bridge between food, our hands and our mouth. The design of the object releases the traditional space of the dish from the table and turns our hand into an experienceable element. The proximity to food highlights the value and meaning of it. The hand-object is only functional when in the eater’s hand and will tip over when being placed on a table . This creating a new dynamic interaction at the dining table.
